“Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,
and whose sins you retain are retained.” John 20:22-23
As we journey through life, we often stumble and fall into sin. God is always ready to lift us up and restore us to fellowship with him. He does this through the Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as confession or penance). Through confession to a priest, God’s minister, we have our sins forgiven, and we receive grace to help us resist future temptation.
At St. Anthony’s, children in 2nd grade are prepared for their first Reconciliation through our PSR program. This preparation also includes a parent/home component. First Reconciliation is offered in the Fall, so it has its own time for catechesis and is separated from the preparation for first Holy Communion.
Adults and older children or youth are prepared for their first Reconciliation through the RCIA process.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available before Mass on Saturdays, from 4:30 to 5:00 pm. You may also call the Parish Office, 573-346-2716, to schedule an appointment.
A Communal Penance Service is held each year during the seasons of Advent and Lent.
